ERIC ALLAN,Composer and arranger of music in the Scottish tradition, Artist and Fiddle-maker.
My wife Helen and I live at Drumossie Brae, between Inverness, capital city of the Highlands of Scotland, and Culloden, site of the last battle on British soil in 1746. We have played music all of our lives, but it is our involvement in Scottish traditional music which has inspired my many compositions in the Scottish idiom.
I have played for many years with Inverness Fiddlers and Scots Music Group BIRL, and written arrangements for them. This has involved playing in Scotland and abroad for listening and dancing, recording, competing and sharing music, all of which has developed my respect for the great heritage of fiddle music, including the classic fiddle tunes, music from bagpipe and Gaelic sources and contemporary compositions which continue the living tradition. Adjudicating at music festivals, I am encouraged by the growth of young talent in traditional music.
